How to Fish Difficulty Settings: Easy, Normal or Hard?
Compare the official How to Fish Easy, Normal and Hard modifiers, choose a mode for solo or co-op, and verify which patch added the setting.
What difficulty settings does How to Fish have?
The official Patch 1.0.9 notes added Easy and Hard to the existing Normal setting. You can change difficulty from the main menu or in-game. The setting changes creature combat numbers; it does not replace the bait, trophy or island hand-in chain.
| Mode | Creature health | Creature damage | Best fit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Easy | 25% less (75% of Normal) | 50% less | First solo run, testing controls or a group that wants the story with less combat pressure |
| Normal | Previous default | Previous default | Baseline for guides and a balanced first run |
| Hard | 25% more (125% of Normal) | 25% more | Players who already know boss tells and want longer fights |
Why the choice matters
How to Fish combines physics, boats and combat. Easy gives more margin when a creature throws the boat or when a new player is still learning reeling and weapon pickup. Hard increases the cost of a missed dodge or a bad launch, so it is more useful after you understand the boss route. Difficulty is not a shortcut around progression: the Lighthouse hand-in, boat key, Radar and named trophies still matter.
How to choose and verify
- Select Easy, Normal or Hard in the main menu, or open the in-game difficulty control.
- Start a short private session and note the selected mode before testing a creature.
- Compare two otherwise similar hits; look for the health and damage behavior above rather than assuming a visual effect means a modifier.
- If co-op players disagree about the mode, have the host leave and reopen the lobby, then confirm the mode on the new session. Keep the same bait and creature so the comparison has one variable.
What Patch 1.0.9 did not promise
The notes do not publish different loot tables, drop rates, achievement rules or island unlocks for each mode. They also do not say that the setting fixes stutter, Relay failures or fish-not-biting reports. Use the dedicated troubleshooting pages for those symptoms.
